Call Our Legislators: Rule of Law Must Prevail

Contact information below. NOTE: calling the Jacksonville offices is recommended.

Background: The Trump administration has openly defied court orders to stop the deportation of alleged Venezuelan gang members. Trump officials, including Secretary of State Rubio, did not deny their non-compliance, instead making faulty excuses about the deportation plane’s location and the judge’s authority.

Suggested Script:
Hi, I’m a constituent calling from
[zip]. My name is ______.   [REP/SEN NAME] must stop allowing the Trump administration to defy the Constitution and do their job as a member of a co-equal branch of government to resist the Trump administration’s blatant disregard for the rule of law. I ask that [REP/SEN NAME]…

  • Subpoena Elon Musk and DOGE to investigate their alterations to government IT systems and private data theft, (and)

  • Publicly condemn and demand oversight hearings to investigate the Trump administration’s open defiance of federal court orders.

In America, we don’t have kings. You were elected to serve the people—please do your job, or risk losing the privilege of holding that position.

We met w/ Rep. Rutherford on Tuesday…

Overall, it was fairly unsatisfying. Rutherford was polite, parroted Republican talking points, is very anti-immigrant, and didn’t even seem up to date with current events such as the firing of 60,000 from the DOD. He did not feel Musk was doing anything wrong or unusual, nor did he feel there had been executive overreach. He tried to say that Trump is bringing business back to the US, and he prevaricated about  a tax cut for the rich.

Rutheford was strongly opposed to pardoning the Jan 6 rioters. He said he had posted a public statement criticizing this, but he refused to have a follow up statement. He also declined joining us in the Town Hall. We pushed him hard, but it mostly fell on deaf ears. He did invite us back for a future chat.

Protect the Department of Education

Send an email now and demand your Members of Congress oppose any legislation that helps Trump weaken or abolish the Department of Education. Republicans need the most pressure right now, and it’s also important for Congress to know their constituents want them to fight.
