Floridaâs Book Ban Crisis: What You Need to Know
School districts across Florida, including in St. Johns County, are pulling books from libraries without following the legal review processâmany under pressure from state officials, including the attorney general and education commissioner.
Advocacy groups and banned authors are calling on the Florida Legislature to investigate. They say this bypasses the law and violates studentsâ First Amendment rights.
Books with LGBTQ+ themes and those addressing race are among the most frequently targeted. Local leaders are worried: âToday itâs books. Tomorrow it could be something else,â warned one Orange County school board member.
This isnât just about booksâitâs about government overreach and censorship. And itâs happening in our schools right now.
Contact Members of the Florida Joint Administrative Procedures Committee to investigate school districts pulling books without following the legal review process! NOTE: our reps are Tom Leek and Kim Kendall. Please focus on these two, if not the entire list. Thank you.
Sample email: I’m urging you to ensure that Florida school districts follow the legal review process before removing books from libraries. Skipping this process not only violates state law â it also denies students access to diverse perspectives and critical learning opportunities.
These politically driven book bans are harming Floridaâs children. Please act now to protect their rights and uphold the rule of law.
