👉  Stop Alligator Alcatraz! 🐊

The Trump and DeSantis administrations are taking $450 million from the FEMA budget to build an immigrant detention center in a remote section of the Everglades. This raises questions for the rights of hundreds of undocumented immigrants who will be held there while also raising serious concerns about the potential environmental impact.

Please sign the following petitions in order to send a strong message:

Alligator Alcatraz is bad for people and bad for the environment.

Suggested Script: Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______. I’m calling to urge the Senator to oppose H.R. 1, the Budget Reconciliation Bill, and its harmful cuts to vital government programs. Congress should pass a fair and responsible budget that helps working families and communities, not one that slashes our benefits to fund tax cuts for the wealthy.

Consider including 1-3 of the following issues:

  • the massive increase to the federal deficit, (and)

  • the devastating cuts to Medicaid, (and)

  • the funding increase for ICE and Trump’s mass deportation operation, (and)

  • the widespread roll back of clean energy tax incentives and climate protections, (and)

  • the unprecedented funding cuts to SNAP, (and)

  • the funding cuts to gender-affirming care for patients of all ages, (and)

  • the funding cuts to Planned Parenthood clinical care, (and)

  • the private school voucher program that pulls money from public schools, (and)

✊CALL REPRESENTATIVE FINE

This week, U.S. Representative Randy Fine (CD 6) sent a newsletter calling the No Kings protests in Florida and across the country “violent” and linking the protests to the murders of Senator Hortman and her husband (see below). Please call Fine’s office and tell them we don’t appreciate his misrepresentation of the No Kings protests in Florida.

Rep. Randy Fine’s office line: 202.225.2706

There were no credible outlets reported shootings, clashes with police, or large-scale violence anywhere in the state of FL. Coverage from Tampa Bay, Miami/Fort Lauderdale, and other coastal cities likewise noted big crowds but either no arrests or only routine disorderly-conduct citations.

📞 Here’s the message essence to deliver:

I’m calling to let Rep. Fine know that his newsletter misrepresents the peaceful protests in Florida. In Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Palm Coast, our actions were confirmed as peaceful by local law enforcement who were present, and by local news sources. Additionally, multiple credible sources have confirmed that the person responsible for the deadly incident in Minnesota has no direct connection to the No Kings movement.  To imply otherwise is dangerous and fuels misinformation.

⚠️Be sure to include your name and zip code if someone answers, or if leaving a VM so your message will be counted!

Here’s the newsletter piece from Fine V6:

📚 Florida’s Book Ban Crisis: Keep the emails coming! 📚

School districts across Florida, including in St. Johns County, are pulling books from libraries without following the legal review process—many under pressure from state officials, including the attorney general and education commissioner. Advocacy groups and banned authors are calling on the Florida Legislature to investigate. They say this bypasses the law and violates students’ First Amendment rights. Books with LGBTQ+ themes and those addressing race are among the most frequently targeted. Local leaders are worried: “Today it’s books. Tomorrow it could be something else,” warned one Orange County school board member.

This isn’t just about books—it’s about government overreach and censorship. And it’s happening in our schools right now.

Contact Members of the Florida Joint Administrative Procedures Committee to investigate school districts pulling books without following the legal review process! NOTE: our representatives are Tom Leek and Kim Kendall. Please focus on these two, if not the entire list. Thank you.

Sample email: I’m urging you to ensure that Florida school districts follow the legal review process before removing books from libraries. Skipping this process not only violates state law — it also denies students access to diverse perspectives and critical learning opportunities. These politically driven book bans are harming Florida’s children. Please write to explain how you will to protect their rights and uphold the rule of law.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
